For teams that want to leave Selenium but cannot review one huge rewrite.
Your setup
- A Selenium suite (Java, Python, C# or JavaScript) in a GitHub repo, split into areas such as login, cart, checkout.
- A test environment both suites can run against.
- The team reviews each pull request before the next area starts.
Say this to Certyn
Move our Selenium tests in acme/web to Playwright with TypeScript. Start with the login area, one PR per area.
What Certyn does
- Opens the
GH_TOKENform if needed: Contents and Pull requests, Read and write. - Reads the Selenium suite and lists the areas it found. It saves the plan (order of areas, target language, folder) in the project wiki so later chats and runs follow it.
- For the first area, sets up Playwright once (config, base URL from the environment, shared fixtures), then ports each test. Every check in the old test stays a check in the new one.
- Runs the new tests several times against the environment.
- Opens a pull request for that area, with a table: old test, new test, same checks.
- After you merge, you say next area, and it continues from the plan.
What you get
- One reviewable pull request per area.
- A plan in the wiki that shows which areas are done.
- A Certyn issue with evidence for any real product bug the new tests find.
Limits
- Certyn does not delete the Selenium tests unless you ask. Remove an area once you trust its Playwright tests.
- Selenium in Java needs a JDK. Certyn installs it at each cloud run, or use a self-hosted runner to keep it installed.
- In the cloud, the old Selenium tests run on Chrome only. For other browsers, use your runner.
- Certyn does not change your CI to run the new suite unless you ask. Changing
.github/workflowsneeds the token'sworkflowpermission.
