Quick Start Guide

Go from sign-up to your first check in minutes, by telling Certyn about your app in Ask Certyn.

You set Certyn up by talking to it. Open Ask Certyn, say what you want to test, and Certyn asks for what it needs, sets it up, and checks that it works. Nothing has to be configured first.

What you need

For a web app or an API, a URL Certyn can reach: a staging site works best. An app on a private network works too, through a self-hosted runner. For a mobile app, a device cloud account (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, LambdaTest) or your own Appium server.

Go to certyn.io and sign in. Certyn creates a starter project and opens Ask Certyn, the chat on your project's home page.

Ask for help

Type Help me set up, or say what you want right away, like Test the checkout on https://staging.example.com.

Certyn asks up to three questions: what to test and where it runs, whether it needs a sign-in, and where bugs should go.

Answer in the chat

Certyn saves your app's URL (it asks you to allow the change first). For anything secret, like a test account or an API key, it opens a small form in the chat. You type the value there; it goes straight into the environment and never into the conversation. See Test accounts and secrets.

Connecting Jira, Linear, GitHub, Slack, Sentry or TestRail works the same way, with a form in the chat. See Connections.

Watch Certyn check it

Certyn opens your app on a Machine: a browser it uses while you watch. The Machine starts with your app and your test account, so Certyn can sign in without seeing the password. If a step needs you (a 2FA code, a captcha, SSO), Certyn hands it to you, and you do it on the Machine's screen.

Pick what's next

Certyn suggests two or three next steps that fit your answers, for example:

  • an explore run of your main flows, which also writes test cases for what it finds
  • bringing in the tests you already have (TestRail, or results from your CI)
  • runs on every pull request or deploy

Pick one. You can ask for the others later.

You can skip setup

You can ask Certyn anything from the first minute. When a request needs something that is missing (a URL, a test account, a tracker), Certyn says what is missing and sets it up then.

Prefer settings pages?

Everything the chat sets up also has a page: Environments for URLs and variables, Connections for your tools, and Settings for mobile runtime. The setup checklist on the dashboard still opens the guided setup if you want it.
